THE B.M.A.P INITIATIVE

Open Letter from Phoenix

A Movement for Inclusivity

As a performer, February is my favorite month for showcases, primarily because of its spirit of inclusivity. During this time, every facet of the African American Diaspora finds a welcoming space—whether in churches, schools, parties, or community events. The rich tapestry of sound—spanning genres such as gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, hip hop, hymns, and spirituals—resonates powerfully. Each musical form is deeply rooted in our shared history and embraced with open hearts.

February also nurtures beautiful intergenerational connections, allowing different generations to come together and enhance our celebrations. This intersectionality enriches the vibrancy of our gatherings, creating an environment where every voice and experience is not only heard but valued.

Black History Month serves as a poignant reminder of our shared heritage, uniting cultures and making the dream articulated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his "I Have a Dream" speech feel more achievable during this special time.

The vision of B.M.A.P. extends this month into everyday reality. Our programs integrate the concepts of Basketball, Music, and the Arts—including spoken word and visual expression—into a culture of participation. For over seven decades, basketball has been a vital part of our cultural exchange. B.M.A.P. provides opportunities for engaging in basketball drills, singing circles, and various forms of artistic expression—both written and visual.

We are actively seeking opportunities to expand our programming. Will you consider making a place for us within your organization?
